This installation consists of a living artist working in public view at the Civic Centre Galleria. While one wonders what an artist does, J Peachy a local artist, will immerse himself as the artist in residence during the Festival of the Arts and will go about his daily creative life. For the viewer this could mean the monotony of computer work, seeing the social collaboration with another artist or the intrigue of how an art piece is created from scratch.
A mock-up of a live-in art studio will be set-up at the Galleria, complete with a table, chair, seating area, sofa, sleeping area, easels, and a pet dog. The authentic set-up will be an environment that is conducive to art making, complete with the same comforts of J Peachy's own home studio. For the viewing public in the Galleria, the observation will be from a distance with no interaction with the artist, analagous to watching a live stream via computer. However, unbeknownst to the public viewer, they are also being observed by a camera behind them that is streaming images to the internet, of which the artist has opportunity to see as well. Audio will also capture the public viewing audience conversation, which could give the artist the opportunity to create a real time response while he is creating, hence the term Re/Observation. It is intended to provoke thought that the role of the artist is to see a wider view of the world and thus create their own response to what they see/hear. It is intended to create dialogue about how we live and encourage one to look at ones actions even though it may feel uncomfortable. Click here to find more information on J. Peachy
